Pelikan has stood out from other brands because of the quality of these German made pens but more particularly the quality and choice of it’s nibs.
The ability to select from a wide range of nib sizes has attracted a loyal following from discerning pen users who require other than the standard fine, medium and broad offered by most other brands. Pelikan’s decision to drop most of the less common nib variations across their ranges has been met with despair by many. Was this a wise thing to do?
Well, Pelikan obviously think that it was, undoubtedly prompted by the economics of maintaining the wide range of nib options. It is difficult to know exactly what the economics are but Pelikan have moved from the sublime to, well, mean. Once the current stock has sold through (and it looks as though it pretty much has) there will only be four ‘standard’ nibs available across the ranges: EF, F, M and B. No more triple broad or double broad and no oblique nibs at all.
For the sake of those keen pen users with with some style and flourish, could Pelikan have a rethink and at least make the double broad and possibly triple broad available, even if they cost a little more?

Being a Pelikan lover and lover of the broader sized nibs, I would urge Pelikan to reconsider their nib supply policy. At the very least add a Double-Broad to the line-up. In the meantime I will cherish my M1000 with its awesome BBB nib!
I prefer F or EF nibs, but it is a shame to see the less common nibs disappear. I feel lucky that I managed to get an OM nib before they disappeared.
yes please, keep the BB and 3B nibs. I definitely need one of each, but have to buy them yet 🙂
I love the broad nibs – they are my favourite and, like Mr. Grove, I cherish my double and triple broad nibs! My interest in a pen drops considerably when I find out is has a fine or medium nib.
Bring back the broads! Especially for us with larger scripts!
Yes, I’m also a broad nib pen fan. The broader the better. I hope Pelikan will at least consider having the option to special order the nib at a premium if it can’t be in their standard range anymore.
If it’s economics that have driven this decision, why not continue to offer the less popular options at a price – better than stopping them altogether.

sbrebrown now that would be a good bumper sticker, Bring Back the Broads, with a picture of a nib. Of course your car might get pelted first before the reader understands the meaning. Didn’t I see an email from Pelikan recently offering Bespoke Nibs? Didn’t keep it though. The world of manufacturing is moving from standardization to customization, no reason why a progressive German company like Pelikan would not jump on this (challenge).
If you can’t get a big broad nib or a stub or a cursive italic or flex, what’s the point of a fountain pen? Might as well get a Bic ballpoint and be done with it!
I have almost given up buying fountain pens from some brands that only seem to offer an M or F as options. On the other hand, Monteverde – not at all in the luxury bracket that Pelikan occupies! – manages to offer a wide range of nibs including stubs on many of its pens. If they can do it, why can’t Pelikan?
I am a Pelikan collector and I am great fan of broad an double broad nibs. Don’t stop making them please!!!!!!!
I’m a german collector of fountain pens and I practice calligraphy. Pelikan is one of my favorite brands, next to Conway Steward. I really love these nibs and it would be a shame if they were taken off the market! It is hard enough to get good nibs! They shouldn’t end like Montblanc, being nothing more than a shadow of themselves, producing crappy pens.
I love broad nibs and nibs of all variety. Variety is the spice of life.

One of the greatest selling point that I ever found about the Pelikan brand is their huge selection of nibs, especially the obliques.
As a fan of 2 extreme nib types, the EF and the B/BB etc, I must say I’ll be so disappointed if Pelikan broads and obliques are gone because… I have never gotten to try a Pelikan broad/oblique before! Please keep them in production, I know a number of friends and myself would like to have them!

I have several Pelikan very broad nibs: BB, 3B (in my M1000 it’s stubish), OBB and they are the best in my collection! Please, Pelikan, we love very broad nib! Don’t leave us!
I’m still new to the world of fountain pens and have been delving into calligraphy at the same time. I’ve heard so much about the Pelikan nibs and the idea that they’ll be taken off the market before I can try the BB and oblique nibs out (let alone buy them) is rather sad :/ Save the Pelikans, keep the nibs!

I need my BB and BBB nibs! I feel lucky to have nabbed a Pelikan OM while they still lasted, but I need many more Pelikan nibs to complete my collection. Don’t take them away. 🙁
Dear Pelikan, Please rethink. We love broad nibs. The broader the better. And remember – broad nibs use more ink…. a sip of Edelstein anyone?
Pelikan, the broad nibs you did made your pens special, especially the BB and 3B because of there quality! Collectors like broad nibs and not standard nibs and if you think it is economical to anger collectors you will see … so bring them back if you are smart!

The broad nibs such as BB, and 3B were great. It’d be nice if they made a return.
If I absolutely have to I will sometimes accept a B nib. But my nibs of preference are BB and 3B. That is the major reason why I bought Pelikan pens. Now they have shut the door in my face.

Bring back the BB & 3B nibs – please! They make writing exciting!
Plenty of people are willing to pay extra to keep those options and if there’s a demand for it then pelikan is only hurting itself by not supplying those options.

The exotic nibs are for the true pen lover. I think it is shameful for Pelikan to discontinue their best nibs.

I have two 3B nib pens, and I can’t even buy a third one for a different colour ink. I WANT BBB NIBS BACK PELIKAN.. PLEASEEE
Those nibs were very beneficial for some of my handwriting students, and now I can no longer recommend these nibs, bcause soon they will no longer exist.
Pelikan oblique italic nibs are the only choice for hand music copying. Not everyone wants to spend all their very valuable music writing and copying time learning “Computer 401” in order to compose and copy their artistic professional endeavors, only to end-up with a product that is very 2nd Rate for professional musicians to “read” while playing.
