This Special Edition Lamy AL-Star fountain pen is, in fact, bronze in colour, but we felt that’s close enough to gold to get a mention in this list — especially at the incredibly low price point of £25.50.

The AL-Star range offers a simple yet stylish and ergonomic design, making it ideal for anyone — from beginners to those who are long-term fountain pen lovers.

Again, this pen isn’t gold, but is machined from solid brass to an octagonal-shaped barrel — making it very interesting to look at indeed.

Over time, the raw brass of the Kaweco Brass Sport fountain pen will develop a beautiful burnished patina, making it unique to you and your use of it.

This pen is ideal for those who enjoy a chunkier writing instrument and is the perfect size for slipping in a pocket. Weighing in at 44 grams, you will always know it’s still there, too.

At just £62.50, the Brass Sport is the perfect treat for yourself or a loved one.

The steel nib is also gold-plated, which results in an extremely elegant-looking pen.

This Caran d’Ache fountain pen costs £221 and is the perfect writing tool for anyone with a love of metal, slimline pens.

The Pelikan Toledo 700 is a slightly smaller version of the Toledo 900. It is created from 925 sterling silver which is then plated with fine gold film before being engraved by hand. The nib is also 18-carat gold with a rhodium trim.

The Toledo fountain pen is named after the Spanish city that is well-known for its continued use of Damascus patterning — the inspiration for the exquisite decorative technique used on this instrument.

The Toledo has featured this patterning since 1931, and 50 of this pen are now made in Germany per month by hand — each pen unique.

To own one of these pens will cost you £825.
