Kaweco Skyline Sport mechanical pencil review

This review is of the Kaweco Skyline Sport mechanical pencil in Mint with a 0.7mm HB lead. If you’re already a fan of Kaweco, like me, you will immediately recognise the silhouette of this Skyline pencil as the classic octagonal Sport design; this shape has certainly stood the test of time, having hardly changed since 1935 when it was first introduced. I, for one, am very glad, as I adore this shape!

The Kaweco Skyline mechanical pencil

The main change in this pencil from older designs is the fab new colours: I chose Mint, but it also comes in Grey, Pink (bright), Macchiato (a light brown)… and Black and White. Alongside these new colours is a furniture swap-out; the usual gold has been replaced with polished chrome for the Skyline range, and it looks really great against the gloss barrels.

So, how does this pencil feel in the hand? I imagine this would vary depending on the size of your hand, but for me it is the perfect size, shape and weight. For those of you who like to know the stats, the Kaweco Skyline Sport mechanical pencil is 105mm long and 15mm wide (at it’s widest), which makes it fairly short and rather chunky – ideal for throwing in a pocket or handbag. I use mine with my diary, so it gets thrown into my handbag all the time, and I can therefore vouch for how hardy it is against damage! It is quite light, being made of plastic, however it doesn’t feel too light.

As this pencil is octagonal in shape, it can easily be used at any angle on the paper, meaning that if you’re one of those people who likes to rotate your pencil to wear the lead down evenly, you can. I don’t personally, but I do love the grip of this barrel (as you can see above!), and I enjoy the fact when the pencil is sat flat on a table, the logo is able to be facing directly upwards.

Overall, I feel this is a fantastic push pencil for its price point –  at less than £20, it is really very affordable. My only concern would be that people with large hands might struggle a little, but as my hands are small, it is perfect for me! Also, as you can see in the photo below, this mechanical pencil looks great alongside the other products in the range. I haven’t purchased the rollerball pen or the clutch pencil yet, but they are on my shopping list for the future.

As a long-term stationery lover, I adore working for The Pen Company. My childhood saw me carrying around a little red briefcase covered in stickers and full of pens, paper and other such goodies; my adulthood sees me doing pretty much exactly the same!
