It’s rare when one can write an “entry” like this and mean every word knowing that though it’d be nice to win, the posting remains as true regardless of the outcome.
I first became aware of Space Pen technology when my wife and I were visiting New York’s World Trade Centre long before the terrible events of 9-11-01 and she bought me one of the original Sensa pens which were supplied with Space pen refills.
It immediately became my favourite pen and although I’ve been given some very attractive and pleasant-to-use pens including a beautiful Caran d’Ache gold pen, my Sensa remains favourite to this day. But, the telling fact is that although the pen can be used with other refills it is always best with genuine Space Pen refills.
Lord Hanson was asked once what it meant to be rich. He replied that although the questioner might feel it was a less than modest answer, he genuinely felt the best part about it was being able to help people less well-off than himself. “After all,” he went on, “you can only wear one gold watch – after that it’s plain ostentation.” I’ll never be in Lord Hanson’s league but I know what he means – in my case it’s my Sensa pen – and space pen refill.
